THE SCHOOL OF LIFE by Alain De Botton
Without fail, every time I pick up one of Alain De Botton’s books I just can’t put it down until I’m done. I’ve lost track of time with this one.
There’s something about his warm and accessible way of presenting the complexities of emotional intelligence that really speaks to me.
It’s a guide to better understand and achieve genuine emotional maturity and it tackles all of the subjects you haven’t been taught at school such as: understanding ourselves and the relationships we form, endure failure and grow more resilient.
“The emotionally intelligent person knows that love is a skill, not a feeling, and will require trust, vulnerability, generosity, humour, sexual understanding and selective resignation.”
“Being a good listener is one of the most important and enchanting life skills anyone can have.”
“We want our friends to be nice, but appreciate our lovers as a touch dangerous.”
