THE SILENT PATIENT by Alex Michaelides

This is THE talk of the town as far as psychological thrillers go.

Such a captivating and extensive exploration of a woman convicted of murder and a therapist determined to treat her and find out the reason behind her murder.

What got me hooked was the consistent and methodical suspense that came from investigating the mind of a criminal while also delivering some really good plot twists.

You are guaranteed to feel connected to Theo, the psychotherapist, as we intimately follow his journey into breaking his patient’s silence and, at the same time, understanding more of his own personal life.

Just when you think the truth is about to come to light, one more layer of mystery is added by gradually unveiling some of Theo’s secrets.

The final reveal is jaw-dropping, I literally read the ending twice as I couldn’t believe it. Even if you think you might have connected the dots, I assure you, there’s one last twist coming your way.

This book certainly delivers on a most shocking and intelligent plot, from which you won’t want to get away.

“We often mistake love for fireworks - for drama and dysfunction. But real love is very quiet, very still. It's boring, if seen from the perspective of high drama. Love is deep and calm - and constant.”

“I believe the same is true for most people who go into mental health. We are drawn to this profession because we are damaged - we study psychology to heal ourselves. Whether we are prepared to admit this or not is another question.”

“Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive, and will come forth later, in uglier ways.” —SIGMUND FREUD
